Have you read the book Who Moved My Cheese? If you haven’t then you really need to take a few minutes to do so. It is a rather quick read and you can learn quite about about how your own behaviors may enhance or inhibit you. Now mind you,
you will be compared to two mice in a maze but that is beside the point.
The most important piece of that book that stands out in my mind
is what would I do if I wasn’t afraid? Have you ever really asked this of yourself when pondering a major decision? What would you do? Running an internet business may force you to constantly ask yourself this question. What happens when you begin to see some income coming in from your business however, you are beginning to spend a lot of time with it? Should you leave your job?
What would you do if you were not afraid? Are you lulled into the sense that your job provides you with security? It is a valid question to ask most employees feel their weekly or biweekly check is a given constant. Is it really though? If you are like me, you may spend a long period of your day in a cubicle at a large firm where job cuts are the norm. Is your job really a guarantee or is there a potential for you to be let go at any moment?
In thinking about the book, would you be the type of mouse that would run the maze to look for new cheese when your supply was getting low or would you sit tight and cling to what you have? Most people sit tight and cling to what they have not realizing what they may be giving up by not moving. Does that make sense?
Ask youself some more questions. Does your current job pay you while you sleep? Is that even possible? It certainly is if you run an online business. The other night I went to bed after putting together a post and a sales page. When I awoke in the morning there were a few sales in my account. I had to sit and think about this for a moment. My job has never paid me while I was sleeping.
Makes me start to wonder what I have been doing these last few years after college… slaving away in someone else’s cubicle. Now you may not want to do anything drastic because you may have a mortgage or a car payment. I don’t blame you but maybe you want to start looking outside your cubicle, maybe you want to find a little cheese in other places and begin your shift. If you feel like you just don’t know how to ensure
your success then start out by sigining up for the James Brausch Intern Program. All of the steps you need to ensure that your business gets off the ground are built into the program. Go find your new cheese and enjoy what the road will bring by doing what you would do if you were not afraid.

“who moved my cheese” went around our office about a year ago. I couldn’t get into the book, but the message was pretty strong.
For a year now, anytime something changes and people don’t like it, we bring up the book.
Great post.
