What Can Ebay Teach You About Your Blog?

Ebay is by far and away one of the most profitable companies on the web today. How have they achieved this? By setting up a set it and forget it type of platform and allowing the users to complete the majority of the work. Think about it, the platform was set up and the buyers and sellers are responsible for listing and paying and regulating activities. It is amazing how little Ebay actually has to do in order to keep the business in a profitable position.

If there is a task that needs to be integrated into their services, they buy another company that already possesses this core competency. A prime example is the purchase of PayPal, with all the transactions that had been occurring why not own the firm that collects payments and grab an extra fee from the user. So how does all of this translate into your blog? Think automation. Whether most want to admit it or not, keeping fresh compelling content on one’s blog day in and day out can be a struggle if you are a student or if you work full time.

James Brausch has taken this concept and created millions for himself. He runs and extremely generous Intern Program that will not only show you how to automate your blog as much as possible, it will actually provide you with the same tools he uses to run a profitable business. There are some tools like Munius that will allow you to obtain free work from your visitors in order to keep fresh content flowing in. Why not work smart instead of hard when you run your business? What type of products can you generate that would help automate your services and gather work from your viewers? Think about it…

While you speak wisdom, I personally find it very difficult to ‘let go’ of things I know I am capable of doing (ie, website hacking/design/etc.). Perhaps it’s just my childhood of awk, sed and grep. I even made it as far as contacting a real live web 2.0 developer…who never returned my calls. So I hacked it out myself and am quite happy with the results.

    Some year…..
