Own Your Domain Name to Own Your Traffic

Are you wavering on whether or not you should take the leap and buy your own domain name and hosting package? There are some costs that are involved with the process and it can be a bit technical so is it worth it? If you scour the net you will find arguments for both sides such as remaining with a free blog simply doesn’t cost anything and you are not required to maintain security or hosting maintenance.

Let’s look at the flip side, what if you generate loads of traffic from toiling away every day submitting articles and writing blog posts but all of this is lost in an instant when your free blog goes out of business. Think about it for a minute, if you do not own your domain then you do not own the traffic you have created. At-least if you buy the domain name and the host goes bye bye you can change the settings and host it some where else. It is certainly something to think about if you are hesitant on paying a few bucks for the initial purchase.

Many of the freebie blogs such as blogger will actually help you change the settings of the site in order to use your own domain. If you are willing to purchase a domain why not move to your own hosting? As a site owner you will be given the chance to completely control your page. It is easier than you think as I do not know any html or php scripting and I have been able to set up this site and redirect the traffic from my old freebie blogger! Just think the longer you wait the more information you will need to transfer later.

Your (and other James Brausch students) selection of domain names seem to be favoring the .org. Since your .com name is not in use - and James switched his blog from the .com to .org, would you discuss it?

Or is it a RaSof metric so it’s been implemented?

This could easily be another blog post… if you want.
