What is a ping? Think about a little kid flinging a rock at a metal object with some parents standing a few yards away. If the parents are chatting away and the child is quiet they probably have no idea what he or she is up to. Now what if the group of adults heard that distinct ping that resonates when a rock hits a metal barrel. You betcha…they would now know exactly what the little one was up to. Pinging in the online world is very similar.
When you update your blog with a new entry no one will know immediately unless you have a mailing list built. So what can you do? Throw your little rock at the search engine barrels in order to let them know something new and exciting is going down at your place! There are a few ways that you can complete this the first one is the easiest and is available if you use Word Press. Word Press users can enter the admin section of their blog, select the word options, click on writing to bring up the writing options and scroll to the bottom where the updating service area will collect a list of ping addresses.
If you are using a platform like Blogger that does not have this built in feature, then you also have a few options. You can grab a handful of rocks and throw them at a bunch of barrels by visiting a few different sites to ping or you can use a slingshot and make a really loud ping! If you do not have the time to hand visit many sites then visit www.pingoat.com, pingomatic.com/, or search the web for Blog Blaster 1.4. If you opt to use Blog Blaster please do no confuse it with Blog Blaster Pro which is a spamalicious program that sends spam ads to everyones blogs.
Blog blaster 1.4 can be used as freeware trial and it will ping a list of 30 preset ping addresses but it also gives you the capacity to add in your own ping addresses so you can build your list as you go. Even if you are a Word Press user this may benefit you as it will not cause a long delay in publishing your post. I used this software successfully when running blogger accounts. If you decide that you would like to hand visit sites or if you just need a ping list then have no fear. Here is the ping list I use each time I post. Enjoy!

This post is very helpful. I’ve been wondering why my blogger blog never updates on Technorati. I guess I will have to look into what you mentioned. Thanks for sharing.
